# When Is Your Junior Ready for AJGA and Major Tournament Golf?

AJGA events are the gold standard of junior golf. But entering too early can backfire. Here's how to know when your junior is truly ready — and how to prepare them.

## The AJGA Question

Every parent of a competitive junior eventually asks: "Are they ready for AJGA?" The American Junior Golf Association runs the most prestigious junior events in the country — where college coaches recruit and national rankings get built. But entering too early can do more harm than good.

## The Readiness Checklist

### Scoring Consistently in the Mid-70s

AJGA fields are deep. If your junior isn't consistently shooting 72-78 on regulation courses, they'll struggle to make cuts.

### Comfortable with 36-54 Hole Events

Can your junior maintain energy and focus through multiple rounds? Start with two-day local events before AJGA.

### Rules Knowledge Is Automatic

AJGA events are officiated strictly. Your junior needs to know the Rules of Golf cold.

### Independent Course Management

No coach walks with the player. No parent advice between holes. Your junior must manage their own game.

### Emotional Resilience Under Pressure

Can they recover from a bad start in front of spectators? Can they grind near the cut line?

## The Tournament Progression Path

- **Level 1:** PGA Junior League, local club events (ages 9-12)
- **Level 2:** TJGT, US Kids local events (ages 10-14)
- **Level 3:** TJGT Championships, state events (ages 12-15)
- **Level 4:** AJGA Open and Preview events (ages 14-16)
- **Level 5:** AJGA Invitationals (ages 15-18)

## How We Prepare Juniors

- **Technical:** Repeatable swing verified with launch monitor data
- **Physical:** TPI programming for multi-round stamina
- **Mental:** Competition simulations mirroring AJGA conditions
- **Strategic:** Hole-by-hole course strategy and yardage mapping

If you think your junior is approaching AJGA readiness, book a competitive assessment at BGP.
